What is Moxa or Moxibustion?

Moxa-burning-3Exposing the inner body to heat has been traditional therapies of Japan for thousands of years. One of the most effective is the modality of Moxibustion. Moxibustion originally came from China, but flourished more in Japan. Moxa is made of Mugwort herbs, dried a long time under the sun, thus receiving powerful FIR energy. The herb is made into small balls and placed onto the skin above unhealthy, cold areas. Then the ball of herbs is fired and burned. It makes smokes and smells like marijuana. It heats the skin, and sends medicinal energy and FIR vibration deep into the body, warming up specific points inside. The Japanese have for long time treated illnesses by burning the Moxa. The most famous example is Dr. Shimetaro’ Hara‘s practice on incurable illnesses, especially on tuberculosis.
